Bucksville Crossing, by Hucks Homes

No HOA, Half Acre+, Nine Homesites

Bucksville Crossing is Hucks Homes' newest development, named for exactly where it sits — the crossing where Bucksville Drive, Old Bucksville Road, and Browns Chapel Avenue meet. Real homesites on a quiet country road rooted in rich history. Founder Henry Buck pioneered a successful saw mill and built wooden ships, making Bucksville the largest town in Horry County until the saw mill burned down in 1904. Nine half acre+ homesites with no HOA on ground with a story worth telling.

The Story of Bucksville.

Named for the crossing · rooted in real history

1825

A lumber town on the Waccamaw River

Henry Buck moved from Bucksport, Maine to the area rich in forests of pine, oak and cypress. Here he started The Bucksville Saw Mill, a world-renowned sawmill shipping lumber to the Northeast for ship building, and it became known as the largest sawmill in the South. Some of the lumber was even used in the Brooklyn Bridge. The town that grew around them became Bucksville.

1867

Bucksville grows

Henry Buck served in the SC Senate until his death in 1870. During the 1870s, Bucksville prospered, and by 1876 it had over 700 residents, 2 schools, a masonic lodge, a hotel, 2 churches, a general store, and was the largest town in Horry County.

1875

Bucksville built ships

With the Buck family history in shipbuilding, the business continued after his death, and the area was known for ship building in addition to the saw mill. The most famous ship built at Bucksville was the Henrietta in 1875, the largest wooden ship ever built in South Carolina.

1904

The end of an era

By this time the lumber industry slowed down, so did the town’s growth, and the sawmill burned down, never to be rebuilt. The only thing left of the town is the old chimney next to the river that still stands.

Today

The forests are still standing

The mill is long gone, but the timber that placed Bucksville on the map remains, and its rich history will never be forgotten.
